I'm reluctant to have any expectations or hopes for this until I see something concrete on it. The announcement felt like it was advertising a movie more than a game and I'm always a bit sceptical of anything like this especially given how much Kojima seems like he just wants to work with Hollywood actors now.

I feel temporarily vindicated in my apprehension over this project.

Ridiculous to announce it minimum 6 years (likely closer to 8) before it'll likely be out though, what's the point?

Probably just politics amongst console companies. Kojima’s hot shit right now and OD put some hype Microsoft’s way. Death Stranding belongs to Kojima Productions now and I’m sure that’s a process that took a while meaning Sony may have wanted to reveal Physint as soon as possible to make it clear to consumers and shareholders that PlayStation’s not losing KojiPro.
