jond here. shoutout to wayno/duck/toll for tracking me down.
well it really is a mind fuck seeing all these names from like 10-15 years ago and seeing what some of you all are up to now after skimming a few threads.
im now 31 and im really only here because when i was 16 i was visiting my brother while he was at college. he was playing mgsf4 and introduced me to the online mode which i found endlessly fun despite its shortcomings. i liked what i played from the actual mgs games but only ever finished mgs3 and 4 iirc. he told me about mgsf and despite never caring about talking about the games i was hooked by the little community full of posters i found smart, funny, thoughtful or otherwise entertaining in some kind of way.
and its a mind fuck being in such a different place in life from back then. well maybe covid is part of that. that time really feels like a different life to me now. i know around the brief time i was posting on mgl i was working disgusting long hours and was generally just too busy for a lot of shit.
since then i pretty much dropped everything to pick up and move to a new city and while its been a rocky ride ive been able to enjoy life a little more. currently labor/drive forklifts and telehandlers for a living. get to see live music a good amount, got all this great food near me, became a born again pothead, got some family here w me, get to even go to mlb games sometimes etc. living modestly but lifes generally alright at least when im able to disassociate from the current events.
genuinely hope you all are getting by just fine these days and have only upwards to go. i dont want to lie, i cant promise for certain that ill find the time to actively post here consistently. but i look back at mgsf fondly so i just wanted to stop by and say hi/show some appreciation at the very least. site looks good, duck.
I'm surely not the only one watching this? Always curious to see a video game adapted into TV/film, and The Last of Us so far has been a runaway success with casual TV audiences.
2 episodes into Season 2 now.
Joel's death still hits like a ton of bricks. Wasn't sure how I felt about Abby monologuing (which she doesn't do in the game) but was eventually sold on it due to Dever's stellar delivery. Be interesting to see whether they follow the same structure going forward or deviate again
Once a year, the Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith. Paints her cursed number. And everyone of that age turns to smoke and fades away. Year by year, that number ticks down and more of us are erased. Tomorrow she’ll wake and paint “33.” And tomorrow we depart on our final mission - Destroy the Paintress, so she can never paint death again.
We are Expedition 33.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a ground-breaking turn-based RPG with unique real-time mechanics, making battles more immersive and addictive than ever. Explore a fantasy world inspired by Belle Époque France in which you battle devastating enemies.
Reactive Turn-based Combat
In this evolution of JRPGs, real-time actions enhance the heart of turn-based combat. Craft unique builds for your Expeditioners that fit your playstyle via gear, stats, skills, and character synergies. Open an active dimension in combat - dodge, parry, and counter in real time, chain combos by mastering attack rhythms, and target enemy weak points using a free aim system.
Been eagerly expecting this ever since the reveal. Wasn't too sure I'd get along with the combat system too well, but the world design and plot was more than enough to pull me in instantly. Reviews have been exceptional with it sitting at 92 at the moment and with some even saying it is going to be in the mix for game of the year. Looks like my copy may actually arrive tomorrow now so I can't wait.
Let's say hypothetically you could recommend only ONE video game for someone to play..
It might be a fav of yours. It might be something you think is underrated and doesn't get enough love. It might just be something you think someone would really enjoy.
I think for me it's probably Prey (2017) and within the context of it being underrated and not enough 'fellow gamers' seem to have played it. Like seriously, that means most of you reading this right now - if you haven't played it, you should.
It's a sci-fi RPG made by Arkane Studios - same guys behind other gems like Deathloop, Dishonored etc. If you like immersive atmospheric games that tell a good story, this is definitely one for you.
I know a lot of us are already signed up, but for those of you who aren't
wiki Wrote:Last.fm is a music website founded in the United Kingdom in 2002. Utilizing a music recommender system known as "Audioscrobbler," Last.fm creates a detailed profile of each user's musical preferences by recording the details of the tracks they listen to, whether from Internet radio stations or from the user's computer or portable music devices. This information is transferred ("scrobbled") to Last.fm's database via the music player (including, among others, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Qobuz, MusicBee, SoundCloud, and Anghami) or through a plug-in installed in the user's music player. The data is then displayed on the user's profile page and compiled to create reference pages for individual artists.
TL;DR: sign up and link it to wherever you listen to music, last.fm will track it so you can look back later (or years later), follow ya pals, mock their music, find new music - it's a great way to find new artists and songs. I lost my old login so had to make a new one, follow me!
Back again for the revival of the GOAT MGS forums. And once again promising I'll be active ._.
I joined back in 2012 and was really only active for a few years before life got really busy, by that I mean I got a job ha
I'll be honest I don't remember alot of my teenage to early 20s life because years of trauma caught up on me and I was in FLIGHT mode, but what I do remember is my time in MGSF and seeing all these names again are kinda bittersweet. So in the 10 years I've been away I'm now in my 30s with two kids.
I remember joining back in the day because I had no one to info dump metal gear stuff too, and I tried to again with my husband in the last year after replaying Death Stranding again and he's all "I love you but please find your internet friends again" and I got a message out of the blue and here I am -roy-
I have a vivid memory of declaring that on the old forums MGS3 was the greatest game of all time, and dying on that hill, but maturing made me realise MGS2 is far superior and I was not complex enough to understand what a masterpiece it was back then HA
It's lovely to be around again, I promise I'll stick around this time c:
Oh wow.
I think Dirty Duck was the one who referred me back to this site and I wanna thank him for that.
It's been... what? 12 years? I was like, 17 or 18 when I joined in 2012 and now I'm 30.
I have a lot of fond memories of this place and everyone in it. I was homeschooled at the time so it was a good place to banter and meet new folks. (Or just to have friends at all).
I'll be honest, i haven't been big into Metal Gear Solid in ages (but it of course still holds an indelible place in thy heart. Peace Walker and Sons of Liberty in particular are in my thoughts all the time).
I'll do a quick rundown of my life since I left....

• I'm mostly just foccused on this art project of mine called Only Forever. Been tinkering on it every other day since 2012. (It's basically a hodgepodge of all the stories i made up as a kid into a single, giant story). I'm hoping to make it a motion comic with animated segments (it's the kind of project you spend your whole life on and never finish cause that's just what my brain wants. An endless supply of rituals, lol). Will definitely need to find voice actors at some point. It's really just an excuse to document dreams, bring friends together, honor life and all that smultzy jazz.
I'll try and post some of the promo art below:it should be there but if not (I tried).
But I digress.
It's good to be back and to see you all again! And I wanna make a habit of visiting at least once a day to stay in touch. Forgive me, but I actually forgot some of you. (Blame the weed). The names and avatars are familiar but they don't always ring a bell.
Respectfully,
Strangelove (real name is artemis tho)
Would love to hear some of your guys hobbies and likes aside from video games/discussing video games on Metal Gear fan sites, so feel free to talk about what you're doing, what you like to do, or what you'd even like to try.
Essentially, I thought this would be a nice thread considering a lot of these interests we share come up organically anyway, and having a place to talk about them and ask questions is ideal.
Personally, as a lot of you would know, I've been practicing Karate since I was 8 (no longer go to a club for this, but home practice and learning is still in my weekly routine), kung fu and fencing. I'm due to start Chinese Sword Dance too in late April.
Aside from Martial Arts, I love photography, find it super relaxing and enjoy sharing my photos with like minded people.
To keep my brain healthy? I learn Japanese, an hour at least every day, some days I feel like I'm making no progress, other days I feel like I'm a natural! (As is the way)
I've dabbled in writing a lot, and I've gone through periods of writing daily for up to about a month, I'd like to up this and dedicate myself to writing poetry, but it's a much more intense, involved hobby in regards to how much thought goes into it, but hopefully one day I'll be able to do it much more casually and relaxed. Right now I'm not writing at all, but I'm jotting down any ideas I have and fleshing them out as much as possible in my notes app before I transfer them to a word document.
